porcelain girl
Inspired by elements of Chinese cultural values, XY's Porcelain Girl questions the "objectification" of immigrants, China's mass-production of exports, and the cheapening of labor as she is faithfully reproduced time and time again. Using ceramics as an extended metaphor, Porcelain Girl represents the enduring yet shatterable nature of porcelain, the value it holds, as well as its symbolic power and indication of privilege. Porcelain Girl draws parallels between XY's experience and that of the larger diaspora, the Confucian fatherland, and the fragility of a torn identity.
